This is a rare vintage men's vest from the late 1800's- early 1900's in white cotton, with black pinstripes, 5 black buttons, 4 front pockets, and adjustable strap in the back.
It has an embossed pattern, and may have been part of a formal summer suit.
Made by Rosenwald and Weil, Chicago clothiers that opened in 1885.
This vest is in really great condition, compared to others of this type and age.
There are some repair spots on the back, made by a modern machine, and some slight yellowing through out, the front has no flaws or repair marks.
The vest measures appx. a 36"-38" chest.
While doing my research on this item, I came across the fascinating story of Julius Rosenwald, an unorthodox philanthropist, originally part owner of the Sears & Roebuck Co. in the late 1800's, then became president of Sears in 1925.
